Chemical Composition of 7 Common Aluminum Alloy Grades

 

AL1/is pure aluminum

1 is pure aluminum, with aluminum content more than 99%. The minimum aluminum content of this series, such as 1050, is 99.5%. The production process is relatively simple and the price is relatively cheap, which is the most commonly used series in conventional industry at present.

 

AL-Cu2/series aluminum-copper alloy

2 series aluminum alloy represents 2024, 2A12 (i.e. LY12). 2 series aluminum plate is characterized by high hardness, high strength and good machinability, but poor corrosion resistance. The content of copper is the highest, about 3-5%. 2 series aluminum products are aviation aluminum products with high price.

 

AL-Mn3/series aluminum-manganese alloy

The 3 series aluminum alloy mainly represents 3003 and 3A21. 3 series is mainly composed of manganese. The content is between 1.0 and 1.5, which is a series with good anti-rust function, and is used to process parts and components that need good formability, high corrosion resistance and good weldability.

 

AL-Mg5/series aluminum magnesium alloy

5 series aluminum alloys represent 5052, 5083 and 5A06. 5 series aluminum belongs to the more commonly used alloy aluminum plate series. The main element is magnesium, with magnesium content of 3-5%. It can also be called aluminum magnesium alloy. Its main characteristics are low density, high tensile strength, high elongation and good fatigue strength, but it cannot be strengthened by heat treatment. The weight of Al-Mg alloy is lower than other series in the same area, and it is also widely used in conventional industry.

 

AL-Mg-Si6/series aluminum magnesium silicon alloy

The 6 series aluminum alloys represent 6061, 6063 and 6082, mainly containing magnesium and silicon. 6 series is a heat-treatable strengthening alloy with good formability, weldability, machinability, and medium strength, which can maintain good operability after annealing, and is suitable for applications with high requirements for corrosion resistance and oxidation. Good usability, easy coating and good processability.

 

AL-Zn7/series aluminum zinc alloy

The 7-series aluminum alloy represents 7075, which mainly contains zinc. It also belongs to the aviation series. It is an aluminum magnesium zinc copper alloy, a heat-treatable alloy, a super hard aluminum alloy, with good wear resistance and good weldability, but poor corrosion resistance. Among the series, 7075-T651 aluminum alloy is particularly superior, known as the best product in aluminum alloy, with high strength and far superior to any mild steel. This alloy also has good mechanical properties and anodic reaction.
